Sleep apnea & cpap

Hi everyone! I have asthma & lung damage (from double pneumonia last year) & I’m looking for some advice on a couple of questions. I had a sleep apnea test done last night & got officially diagnosed with sleep apnea this morning. In the first 2 hours of the test I quit breathing 42 times & my oxygen never got out of the low 80’s so my tech hooked me up to a cpap machine. That was the best sleep I’ve had in a long time! My first question is does anybody have a problem with nosebleeds after using a cpap machine? I’m used to getting nosebleeds on the right side if my nose gets too dry but today I’ve had a nosebleed on both sides. I’m wondering if the cpap may have dried my nose up too much & what I can do to prevent this in the future. Second question is how hard is it to clean & take care of the machine? I haven’t gotten mine yet but I’m just trying to prepare myself for when I get it. Thanks for any advice & I hope everyone has a great day!

Hi! I’ve been on CPAP for several years now. As for nose bleeds see an emergency medical professional immediately. Also, Clean your CPAP GEAR EVERY MORNING AFTER USE FOR A FRESH CLEAN START IN THE EVENING. Simple and easy to clean. A CPAP specialist will give you cleaning instructions.

This may be a slightly stupid question but why call emergency services for a nosebleed?

You should rule out any kind of brain trauma that might cause nosebleeds.

My ear, nose and throat doctor told my to put vaseline in my nose at night and make sure there is a water chamber on my cpap machine and turn the humidity up on machine also. That stopped my nosebleeds.

The company who will supply you with the equipment will show you how to use and clean it. The machine usually has a humidity chamber and my husband’s has an adjustable setting for that. He uses more humidity in the winter.

I will try that! I get occasional nosebleeds too but was advised to get a CT scan which I refused.

I want to thank all of you for your great advice!!!

My nose gets cold after a couple of hours using my cpap machine. Also get the SoClean machine works great, and you have to replace parts of the mask. Good luck.

Kimberly,
Your C-Pap machine will dry your nose out. Just turn up the moisture that will come thru your machine and that will stop rhe nose bleeds.
Rhey will tech you how to use and clean your machine but all you have to do in get a sink full of warm soapy water and let your face mask, hose soak in the warm, soapy water for a but and thenvjust wash them. The tubing you will have to put some soapy water in your hose n plug each end with your hands and swish it around. Rinse your parts, let air dry fir several hrs. you are done put it back together and rwady to use again. I hope this answers your questions.

When I went in for my sleep study, that was the bezt sleep I had in yrs. Then I went back to my old sleeping pattern of not much sleep at all. I’m so greatful for my C-Pap machine fir the nice sleep and rest I get!!

Yes,so do I. Mines set at 85° and my nose still gets cold.

The night of my test was fantastic!

I felt the same way! Then you have to go about 2-3 weeks before they get you your C-Pap machine. I told the Dr. its like taking candy from a child!!!

I’ll have to wait longer than that for mine. I haven’t met my insurance deductible yet so unless I can find a used one somewhere mine will be 900$. I can get it at cash price for 700$ but then it won’t go towards my deductible & I’m not having any luck finding a used one. I’m kinda screwed either way I go & it’s getting me so depressed. This is the 3rd night in the past 7 days that I’ve had no sleep 😢😢😢

I have sleep apnea and also a Cpac machine. As for the nose bleed mentioned it to your doctor and he will made it moist so that would not be a problem
As for cleaning the Machine they tell you to use baby shampoo the cheapest one on the market. What I find best is white distille vinger it does not leave a film
I have the AirSense 10 Auto set by ResMed what’s make them great they have a app on your phone and they show you how to take the Machine apart for cleaning. They also give reports on how well you are doing
Have fun with your machine. Lolasweetpea

May want toget a ro humidifier also. I had my machine turned up all the way to prevent dryness.Would have to get up and refill tank. After complaining to doctors and machine suppliers was told by both to get humidifier. Solves my problem.
