Need a fix for chronic diarrhea

Hello, I’m looking for suggestions and possibly solutions for chronic diarrhea. While I was undergoing chemo, I contracted c-diff which is a very serious and contagious infection. The infection was so severe because the doctors where I was living at the time didn’t catch it. They didn’t even test for it.

After being on antibiotics for two months they tell me that I don’t have the infection anymore however I still have the diarrhea.

So I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced this symptom and what I can do about it.

Thank you for reading and I appreciate any help you can provide.

Sincerely,

Marguerite

Never heard of that infection. Try the BRAT diet.bananas rice applesauce and toast or crackers. That’s what I used when I had a bad lung infection. After about a week it all just went away. Watch what your eating

Thank you for responding and I have started probiotics about a week ago. Do you know how long it takes to start working? Also, I read about Viberzi online and because I do not have a gallbladder I can’t take that medication. But, I will ask my GI specialist if there is another similar medication that I can try.

Thanks again,

Marguerite

Could it be stress? When I,moved across the country to,live near my oldest son there was so much stress between him and his while I lived in the basement of his home till,I found a place that I kept falling and didn’t eat right and still don’t. Peanut butter jelly bananas and cereal was all I had…had dietreah for 6 months all summer had to wear depends had accidents out of the house, passed up dates with family as I wasn’t sure what or when it would happen…so I feel for you…I’m not sure what else it could be …my gasterentologist told me I was constipated and the dietreah was an overflow from that so he gave me a med called Linzess. It to have me dietreah and when I went back to see him a second time his doctor resident told me to keep trying it…I was angry…they didn’t help me…
Eventually it went away…but it took about 6-8 months for it to stop…then after my lung infection it stopped…I wish I could help, more…

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. But I’m glad your symptoms finally went away. I will talk to my doctor about Linzess. I appreciate you reaching out.

Of course I’m very stressed with everything going on in my life right now, however I know my body and know that it’s something more than that.

Please take care and I wish you all the best.

Hi . Eating yougert might help with the diarrhea, since you were on antibiotics for 2 months.

Hello and thanks for the yogurt suggestion. Because I’m also lactose intolerant it’s difficult to find dairy free food that actually taste good. However I managed to find one that I liked, after sampling quite a few of them. Unfortunately, the yogurt hasn’t helped with the diarrhea but maybe it’s helping my gut flora but I have no way of knowing since I’m still dealing with the chronic diarrhea.

Thanks again and I’m still open for suggestions from the community.

I wish you all the best,

Marguerite

My husband has stage 4 colorectal cancer that hasmetastasized to his liver and his oncologist prescribed him Lomotil for his diarrhea and it has helped him tremendously

Thanks for responding and yes I have been taking Lomotil for about a year. It helps with the symptoms, but it’s not the cure.

I really wish my doctors could figure out why I’m having all this pain and diarrhea post chemo.

Thanks again,

Marguerite

Hi Marguerite,
I hope you’re doing better now. L’ll leave this here for you or anyone else who might need it. I recently learned that drinking starch water is a good home remedy for diarrhea, It helped my dad.

Another option is drinking rice water; however, I don’t know if it works.
Rice water is the suspension of starch obtained by draining boiled rice or by boiling rice until it completely dissolves into the water.

Hope you find this helpful.

Mom (Darla) had horrible problems with this too…Sadly, Lomotil, and mom can eat cheese even though she is also lactose intolerant. “Cheese is binding” they always say…if you can tolerate it… — we read the earlier comment—otc diarrhea meds (loperamide-which slows down digestion) with her Lomotil have given her diarrhea the one-two punch, but we also have to watch for her to have low sodium with her cancer, so she has been drinking diet sodas which have more sodium…—and we had to limit fluid intake for a while. We also use a HEPA air filter that filters 4x the square footage we have (moms risk is lung bacteria as well.) sorry this doesn’t help much. We also eat LOTS of cheese even though she is lactose intolerant too. Lactose is mostly in whey and not curds—can you eat some cheeses?

I had three diarrhea. My doc told me to take Imodium twice a day. That slowed it. Took a few months bfr it went away.

Check into the c-diff trials going on

Thank you for responding and I was wondering if you might have a website for the c-diff trials. Or if there is a certain publication that has this information.

Thanks again,

My doctor has me on loperamide but it’s also in over the counter form. It’s cheaper on eBay or Amazon where you can buy it in larger quantities if it works.

I just had a fecal transplant due to the same Cdiff problem. I have had 1 day good and now back to horrific liq again. Not sure how long the transplant takes to become effective but try talking to your dr. A lot of people have had very good results. Hoping my situation is Temp until the transplant has time to work. I feel for you. It is awful! I have a compromised ammune to include Lupus so I have a heard time with my body not rejecting things.
